The energy commodities trader and convenience store network AS VIRŠI-A (hereinafter - Virši) informs that the construction of the biomethane production plant in Naukšēni, Valmiera Municipality is progressing successfully and in line with previously published information. Construction works at the site commenced in January 2025 and the start of the plant’s operations are planned during the first half of 2026.
The project is being implemented by SIA Livland Biomethane, in which Virši currently holds a 49% stake, and in accordance with the Company’s strategy this will be increased to 51%. Construction is proceeding according to plan - at present, the construction of reactors and other key structures is nearing completion, and installation and calibration of equipment is underway.
At the same time, Virši informs that it is evaluating the potential for a new biomethane production project in Kurzeme region, envisaging the construction of a plant in Ventspils Municipality, Tārgale Parish. For this purpose, Virši, in cooperation with partners, has established the company SIA VENTA Biomethane. The project is currently in the research and development stage, while possible commencement of biomethane production could take place no earlier than in 2028.
“Biomethane production is the next strategic step in the long-term development of Virši, enabling us to purposefully diversify the Company’s business model, ensure a high return on investment, and strengthen our position in the sustainable energy segment. The project in Naukšēni is a significant step in this direction, while the Kurzeme project is currently being assessed as a potential next growth opportunity within the framework of the Company’s strategic plan,” notes Virši Chairman of the Board Jānis Vība.
