The record profit of the LKU Credit Union Group not only strengthens capital but also translates into tangible returns for credit union members. The funds generated are directly invested in innovative products, more attractive service terms and the active expansion of credit unions in both major cities and smaller towns across the country. The value created in this way benefits every member, ensuring the long-term growth of the entire credit union system.
“These significant results show that the chosen strategic direction is proving successful. We are continuing to consistently expand financing and savings opportunities for our customers, strengthen the group’s financial resilience and invest in the organisation’s capabilities, with a view to ensuring sustainable growth in the long term,” said Mindaugas Vijūnas, Chief Executive and Chairman of the Board at LCKU.
LCKU’s unaudited net profit for the first half of the year also grew significantly, reaching €2.3 million.
Key performance indicators
In the first half of 2026, the LKU Group’s assets exceeded €1.3 billion, whilst its capital stood at €109 million. Net interest income reached €28 million – 24% more than in the same period last year. The LKU Group’s profitability ratios also remained at a high level. The return on assets (ROA) exceeded 1% in the first half of 2026 and increased by 0.5 percentage points compared with the same period last year. The return on equity (ROE) was over 13% and rose by 5.1 percentage points compared with the first half of 2025.
Growing loan and deposit portfolios
One of the most significant results for the LKU Group in the first half of the year remains the continued growth of the loan portfolio. According to unaudited data, the consolidated loan portfolio increased by almost 20% year-on-year, reaching nearly €1.05 billion.
Growth in the loan portfolio was observed across all financing sectors, but business financing accounted for the largest share of this growth. The business loan portfolio stood at €489 million at the end of the first half of the year and, compared with the same period last year, grew by more than €114 million, or 29.52%.
“The growing need for business finance and the expanding loan portfolio demonstrate not only that companies are actively investing in their expansion, but also their confidence in the credit union sector’s ability to finance their growth. We aim to be a reliable partner to businesses, ensuring accessible finance for both small and medium-sized enterprises throughout Lithuania,” says M. Vijūnas.
Alongside the growth in the loan portfolio, the LKU Group’s deposit volume has also increased. The total deposit portfolio reached €1.1 billion, with the term deposit portfolio growing particularly rapidly – it amounted to €851 million. Deposit growth was driven by competitive interest rates and attractive savings solutions offered to customers.
Investor confidence in the LKU Group is demonstrated by the successful bond issue
Investor confidence in the LKU Group’s business strategy and results was also reflected in the successful completion of the second phase of the LCKU subordinated bond placement. Across both placement phases, investor demand for the €8 million bond programme totalled €11.5 million, exceeding supply by as much as 44%. The LKU Group’s capital base, strengthened by investor funds, will enable it to finance even more businesses and households across Lithuania.
Consistent investment in the organisation’s growth
In the first half of 2026, LCKU continued to strengthen its organisational capacity: it expanded its team and opened a new office in Vilnius, Lithuania. By expanding its team of highly qualified specialists, LCKU aims to increase operational efficiency and ensure an even higher quality of service for credit unions and their members.
Currently, the LKU credit union group comprises 44 credit unions, which have more than 100 customer service branches throughout Lithuania.
